Gibson ES355 and 1958 Les Paul Standard
![]() |
| The last shot is a picture I took while at college of two
of my matching Gibson's. The 355 on the left is the third of a
series I had of 355's. This one has a two piece flamed top, back
and flamed sides, and a flamed maple neck with heel cap, which was
pinstriped in multiple white/black/white binding inside the final outer
white cap. The fretboard is ebony with the 'V' of abalone, which
one normally sees only on higher priced Epiphones. It had dual
pinstripes on the outer edges of the fretboard, a Bigsby and a flower
pot in the front of the peghead and the back of the peghead as well.
What cannot be seen in this photo, which was on all of my 355's was that I had Gibson bind the 'F' holes like a Super 400, in white/black/white binding. It finished off the guitar in a classy style, rather than the plain white bound 'F' holes one sees on some Gibson's now. The guitar to the right is a matching Les Paul 1958 model both done in matching Iced Tea Sunburst. Both of these were my gigging guitars, built by the Custom Shop of Gibson in Kalamazoo in (dare I say!!!), 1972! |
