Group Shot of Gibson Les Pauls
![]() |
| This group show of Les Pauls' is a partial group shot.
Missing is a 1967 Black Custom and the Custom Elite quilted top pictured
separately. In the shot are the two previously mentioned Les Pauls,
a 25/50 Les Paul selected for me from a group of 100 which had been made
and picked by a dealer who was a friend of mine back when they were being
made in 1980. His store has since been sold to Sam Ash! I
re-did the Elite (shown separately) in Schecter black brass hardware
throughout and the pickups. The pots are all push/pull types which
work as follows: rhythm volume up is series, down is parallel, lead
volume up is out of phase, down is in phase, rhythm tone up is single coil
for rhythm pickup, down is humbucking, lead tone up is single coil for
that pickup, down is humbucking. I had this done at Schecter by Dan
Armstrong, who worked at Schecter at the time in 1980. Funny, but
just in the 1990's, about 15 years later, Gibson put this exact wiring
into the Jimmy Page Signature Les Paul!!!
The last guitar in this picture, the 'plain one' on the far right is a 1958 Les Paul which I found almost totally trashed. I sent it back to Gibson, where my friends in the Custom Shop restored it, but inlaid the peg head with a "The Gibson" scrip logo and of course, I had the back of the peghead blackened into a 'V' and the flower pot put there. Behind them are a pair of my Mesa Boogies, in flamed Hawaiian Koa cabs. These are totally loaded, as all of my Boogies were. These 2 were MK IIa's, one of which Randall Smith bought back from me for his personal collection later on. He was very nice to me and gave me more than I originally was asking for it! |
